A part of Moviment event

In the Nigerian Yoruba culture, the world consists of two distinct realities: the visible world of the living and the invisible reality (orun) of the ancestors and the dead. More than just a performance, Out of This World is an installation powered by the omnipresence of the other world which is found in both listening and in the divinatory process.

The choreographer and curator Qudus Onikeku has imagined this dialogue between the invisible and the visible through a system of 16 Totems—oracles/speakers—that offer access to oral histories and sound archives, encouraging audience participation. The artist uses these sound materials, both artistic and social, to create a performance that mixes music, dance, and words. Out of This World is part of Moviment at the Centre Pompidou, in a gallery 3 that opens onto the city: a multidisciplinary stage in constant metamorphosis where works from the collection, encounters, screenings, workshops, shows, and performances cohabit.
