Concert
Josh Levine began music with the guitar and later studied composition with Balz Trümpy in Basel. He continued his studies in Paris with Guy Reibel at the Conservatoire de Paris and then at IRCAM. He obtained his doctorate at the University of California in San Diego.
Performing in the United States and Europe as a guitarist, he composes music that is, for him, the place "where the irrational and the rational, the sensual and the conceptual, and, more fundamentally, sound and silence, clash and dance, and transcend their apparent dichotomies.
In particular, he explores the articulation between memory and imagination. The physicality of musical performance, its energy, gestures and implied drama also play a large role in his approach to composition.
